Description

Pal-GHK (Palmitoyl-GHK) is a lipophilic derivative of the copper-binding tripeptide GHK, where a palmitic acid chain is attached to enhance skin penetration. The palmitoyl modification improves the peptide's ability to cross the skin barrier and reach deeper dermal layers. It is primarily used in cosmetic and dermatological applications for anti-aging and skin rejuvenation purposes.

Usage

Topically applied in cosmetic formulations at concentrations typically ranging from 2-10 ppm in anti-wrinkle creams and serums. Applied once or twice daily to clean skin, particularly targeting areas with fine lines, wrinkles, or photoaging. Often formulated in combination with other active ingredients for enhanced efficacy.

Mechanism of Action

The palmitic acid modification increases lipophilicity, allowing enhanced penetration through the stratum corneum into deeper skin layers. Once absorbed, GHK chelates copper ions and stimulates collagen synthesis, modulates matrix metalloproteinase activity, and promotes tissue remodeling. The peptide influences gene expression related to extracellular matrix production and has been shown to enhance melanin production through interaction with melanocyte pathways.

Benefits(6)

  • Reduces appearance of fine lines and wrinkles through collagen stimulation
  • Enhances skin penetration compared to non-palmitoylated GHK
  • Promotes extracellular matrix remodeling and skin firmness
  • Supports wound healing and tissue repair processes
  • May enhance melanin production and skin pigmentation
  • Improves skin texture and overall appearance with topical use

Side Effects(5)

  • Potential skin irritation or sensitivity in some individuals
  • Possible allergic reactions to palmitoyl compounds
  • Risk of uneven pigmentation with prolonged use
  • May cause mild redness at application site
  • Limited long-term safety data for chronic topical use
